SUMMER CONCERTS — The Veterans Assoc. of Western Mass. will feature monthly Friday night concerts at The Deuce, a Northampton club staple for more than 60 years. The concerts will be held on the first Friday of each month and will help raise funds for the Veterans Association, which operates the Deuce.
The next concert will be June 1 with Fort Hill Brewery of Easthampton as major sponsor. Tom & Corrie and The Bum Steers and friends will perform.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. with a $10 cover charge.
BBQ BENEFIT — On June 10 , Diemand Farm in Wendell will host the third annual barbecue to benefit the Arredondo Family Foundation from 1 to 4 p.m. All proceeds go towards supporting military families who have lost a loved one and to suicide prevention.
There will be guest speakers, music and raffles. The meal includes smoked ribs, chicken barbecue, baked potatoes and more. Suggested donation is $30 for adults, $10 for children 2-10. A family package for $60 (two adults and two children under 10) is also available.
Donations of gift baskets, items, or gift certificates for the raffle welcome. Please email the farm at events@thediemandfarm .com, call Anne at 522-4453, or Tammy at 834-3709 if you need to arrange for a pick-up of your donation. You can also leave it at the farm store during business hours.
CAR SHOWS — The Florence VFW Post 8006 will hold fundraising car shows at the Bluebonnet Diner on King Street, Northampton, on selected Wednesdays throughout the summer. Dates are: June 20 , July 18 , Aug. 15 , and Sept. 18 . The shows benefit the veterans, veterans auxiliary and community projects. They start at 5 p.m. and run until dusk. Alex R. Page , 94, Amherst, d. May 4; in late 1944, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the counterintelligence corps in Shanghai, China. Helene “Helen” (Paciorek) Finkowski , 95, South Deerfield, d. May 5; she joined the WAVES in 1943, was stationed at the Naval Air Base in Miami, Florida, and was discharged in 1946. Henry Wziontka , 92, Saco, Maine, formerly Easthampton, d. May 4; he was a modest but proud World War II Navy veteran who served on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington.
